It is important to prepare yourself when you seek medical attention for your pet at a veterinary clinic.
If your pet is going in for laboratory tests or surgery, ask if you should bring it on an empty stomach, until what time can it eat or drink before the appointment, if it should be allowed to eliminate and bring fresh samples when you come in or should you confine it and the samples taken at the clinic.
You should ask the veterinarian to show you how to give the medicines prescribed, when you should start medications, how often and for how long? Should they be refrigerated? shaken? Can they be mixed with some food or water?
Can the medications be discontinued after several days if you observe marked improvement?
What other care should you provide after returning home? How much activity or exercise should you allow?
Is it necessary to bring your pet back for a check up and if so, when?
Before coming to see the veterinarian you should make a list and come prepared to write down all the answers. You should also make a list of all the symptoms you have noticed and for how long have they been present.
The veterinarian wants to offer you and your pets good service, such as good nutritional advice, excellent vaccinations, preventive care as well as making your pet well when he is sick. Come prepared and take full advantage of your visit.

Cuando necesite llevar a su mascota al veterinario, usted debe prepararse para obtener el mayor provecho de su visita.
Si su mascota va a cirugía o a exámenes de laboratorio, pregunte si debe llevarla en ayunas. ¿Hasta que hora puede comer y beber agua? ¿Debe eliminar antes de llegar y llevar usted muestras frescas o debe encerrarla para que al llegar a la clínica le tomen las muestras?
Preguntele al veterinario que le enseñe como dar la medicina. ¿Cuando debe usted comenzar a dársela? ¿Cuantas veces al día y por cuanto tiempo? ¿Debe refrigerarse? ¿Agitarse? ¿Puede mezclarse con la comida o con el agua? ¿Puede descontinuarse la medicina si despues de varios días se observa una marcada mejoría?
¿Que otros cuidados debe recibir al regresar a la casa?
¿Es necesario regresar para un chequéo, y de ser así, cuando?
Antes de acudir al veterinario haga usted una lista con estas preguntas y vaya preparada para anotar las respuestas. También debe usted enumerar todos los sintomas observados por usted y desde cuando comensaron.
El doctor veterinario desea brindarle un buen servicio y satisfacer todas las necesidades de su mascota incluyendo una buena alimentación, cuidado preventivo, excelentes vacunas, así como curarle cuando se enferma.
